What the outdoors mean to John:
The outdoors is a massive mosaic that can't easily be put into words, but if I had to sum it up in one, it would be freedom. It has forced me, as a perfectionist, to find beauty in the imperfect—to embrace the mess, the unpredictable, and the complicated. Nature doesn't care about my timelines, expectations, or desire for control. Weather changes. Animals don't cooperate. Fish don't bite. Mountains don't move. And somehow, that's exactly the point. My nervous system has always operated at a higher gear. It notices everything. It prepares for everything. It can turn small stressors into massive ones in a heartbeat. The outdoors is one of the few places where that intensity isn't a liability—it's an asset. It sharpens my awareness without demanding perfection. Out there, I don't have to win every moment. I just have to be present. The outdoors has taught me that life isn't about controlling every variable; it's about learning to move with them. It has made me a better entrepreneur, a better husband, a better father, and ultimately a better man because it reminds me that growth rarely comes from comfort—it comes from uncertainty. For me, the outdoors isn't an escape from life. It's where life finally makes sense.
