Gonzales, Louisiana Will Play Host to the 11th Annual U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship

The U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship, the largest event of its kind in the fast-growing sport of bowfishing, is coming to Cabela's in Gonzales, Louisiana. This year’s event will be held April 27 – 28 and will continue to feature the largest competition and biggest prizes in the sport of bowfishing.

U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship teams can register online at basspro.com/shop/en/us-open-bowfishing-registration-form. There is a $300 entry fee per team.

All U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship registrants have the opportunity to win a Tracker 2072 boat which includes a Mercury 115EXLPT 4-stroke motor and a custom Trailstar trailer valued at $40,765—including average freight and prep.

The U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship purse includes more than $100,000 worth of prizes and giveaways. The first-place team will receive $30,000 in cash. The winner of the biggest fish harvested wins $5,000. All-new prize categories have been added for bighead carp, silver carp, grass carp, and common carp. The second-place prize is $10,000, the third-place prize is $5,000, the fourth-place prize is $3,000, and the fifth-place prize is $2,000.

Besides being a fun weekend for participants and families, the bowfishing event provides lasting environmental benefits for area lakes.

Bowfishing, which combines elements of fishing with archery to harvest rough fish species, is one of the fastest-growing sports in the outdoor industry. Unlike traditional game fishing, bowfishing uses specialized bows to target species including carp, buffalo, and gar that plague lakes, rivers, and streams around the country. Removing these undesirable species improves habitat conditions for native game fish.
