First Shots: Staccato's New HD P4X Delivers Duty-Ready Performance

I had the chance to put rounds through the all-new Staccato HD P4X during Staccato's 250 Years of Freedom Celebration in Florence, Texas, and after spending time behind the trigger, it's clear this pistol was built with serious shooters in mind.

Staccato unveiled the HD P4X as the newest addition to its HD lineup, taking the same 4-inch compensated platform found on the concealed-carry-focused HD C4X and scaling it into a full-size, steel-frame pistol designed for duty, professional use, and anyone looking for maximum control on the range or in the field.

Thanks to its 4-inch DLC-coated flush-fit compensated barrel and 4140 steel frame, recoil was exceptionally manageable; follow-up shots feel natural and predictable. Combined with the full-size grip and 18-round magazine capacity, the HD P4X feels balanced, planted, and confidence-inspiring.

Unlike the aluminum-framed HD C4X, which was designed with concealed carry in mind, the P4X embraces its role as a full-size handgun. The extra weight of the steel frame helps tame recoil, while the longer grip offers a secure purchase for shooters with larger hands and better control during extended range sessions.

According to Staccato, the HD P4X was one of the company's most requested configurations.

"Every Staccato product is built to elevate human performance, and the HD P4X is the clearest expression of that yet," said Paul Smith, Senior Vice President of Product at Staccato. "We engineered a hybrid full-size grip, 4-inch compensated pistol that delivers more control, more rounds and the kind of shootability the world's most elite professionals demand."

Like the rest of the HD lineup, the P4X is built in Texas from American steel and includes fully ambidextrous controls, a reversible magazine release, Glock-pattern magazine compatibility, an active firing pin block, and Staccato's HD HOST™ optics mounting system for mounting today's popular red-dot sights.

Staccato also notes that every HD-series pistol is tested to the demanding standards established by the federal Ballistic Research Facility, protocols designed to evaluate handgun performance in realistic defensive scenarios.

After shooting the HD P4X, it's easy to see where this pistol fits. It isn't trying to be the smallest handgun in the lineup—it's built for shooters who prioritize shootability, recoil control, capacity, and duty-ready performance. If my range time during the 250 Years of Freedom Celebration is any indication, Staccato has delivered exactly that.
