Will Dabbs, M.D., is a practicing physician and writer covering firearms, military history, aviation, survival, and medicine for Hook & Barrel. Raised in the Mississippi Delta, he trained as a mechanical engineer and spent eight years on active duty as an Army aviator, flying UH-1H, OH-58A/C, CH-47D, and AH-1S helicopters. As commander of the Army's High Altitude Rescue Team, he reached the summit of Mount McKinley, North America's highest peak, six times, always at the controls of a helicopter, which he maintains is the only way sensible folk climb mountains. He is also scuba qualified and has made night parachute jumps.

Major Dabbs resigned his commission to attend medical school. He has since delivered 60 babies and occasionally wrung human blood out of his socks, and today [works in his own urgent care clinic]. He has written professionally since [1989] and has more than [2,400] publishing credits, with work appearing in GUNS Magazine, American Handgunner, and The Armory Life. An instrument-rated commercial pilot, he flies his own Van's RV-6A, and he is a partner in a business building precision rifles and sound suppressors.

He is married to his high school sweetheart, has three adult children, and teaches Sunday School.
