Much has happened throughout the outdoor world in recent days. From public land acquisitions to big-time awards to high-profile hunting injuries, catch up on the latest outdoor news.

Uncle Si Robertson Hospitalized & Duck Dynasty Revival

According to AL.com, Duck Dynasty star “Uncle” Si Robertson was recently rushed to the hospital after an unfortunate duck-hunting accident. During a duck hunt, he fell while attempting to get out of a boat. Fortunately, the accident seems to have only resulted in bruised ribs. That and struggles with maintaining oxygen levels were the primary concerns.

This comes on the heels of news reporting that Duck Dynasty: The Revival will soon return to A&E programming. It’s signed on for two years and 20 episodes. The show will focus on Willie and Korie Robertson, and their children and grandchildren.

Arkansas Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Celebrate Public Access

Arkansas Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Celebrate Public Access

Recently, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission acquired 0.9 acres, which of itself, isn’t much. That said, it greatly improved public access to the 103-acre Cedar Creek Wildlife Management Area, which is located in Scott County.

“Point-nine (0.9) acres doesn’t seem like much, but when you look at it, we use the (wildlife management area) as a base for multiple research projects,” Jason Mitchell, an AGFC wildlife biologist in the area, said. “The (USDA) Forest Service uses it as a helipad for its controlled burns, instead of having to fly to Mena to get the fuel and fly back. We also use it for a base for our equipment and our supplies working on U.S. Forest Service co-op areas. Getting blocked out of this (acquisition), we would have had to back up and punt.”

“It’s the first land acquisition for the whole organization,” Brad Green, a recent BHA Arkansas chapter board chairman, said during a dedication held on the property on November 22. “We were really excited when the opportunity came up to be able to partner and just preserve public access to public lands. A huge deal. That’s what we’re about and that’s what we all do here, and we want to do more.”

CWD Discovered in Wyoming Elk Hunt Area 98

While CWD isn’t new to Wyoming, it is newer to Elk Hunt Area 98. An adult female elk tested positive for the disease there. (The third elk ever in that area.) It was found dead on the Scab Creek feeding ground in late December. Elk Hunt Area 98 is in the Pinedale Region. CWD is 100% fatal once contracted.

Launching this year, B.A.S.S. announced the start of the College Series All-American Program. It will present top-performing fishermen with All-American designations. “The All-American designation is awarded to the very best college fishermen in the country and is based on team performance during the season,” said Glenn Cale, B.A.S.S. tournament manager for the College, High School, and Junior Series. “These young anglers will battle it out in three events in one of two divisions. The road to being named an All-American is not an easy path; these anglers are extremely skilled, and they take each competition very seriously for their schools.”

RMEF Reaches Conservation Milestone

RMEF Reaches Conservation Milestone 40 years of history

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is known for its elk conservation efforts. Recently, it surpassed 9 million acres of lifetime conservation work. This was accomplished over 40 years of history.

“Nine million acres equates to almost one square mile of habitat conserved every day by RMEF over our four-decade existence, and all for the benefit of elk, mule deer, moose, other wildlife species, hunting, and conservation,” said RMEF President and CEO Kyle Weaver. “That is a remarkable achievement with immense credit going to our members, volunteers, partners, and all of our other supporters.”

“Our strategic emphasis as an organization focuses on land conservation and access, habitat stewardship, wildlife management and hunting heritage, and will remain such going forward. We look forward to doing more in 2025,” said RMEF Board of Directors Chair Fred Lekse.
