HK-USA has just launched the new VP9CC micro-compact pistol, and our expert gun writer got a sneak peek and early test run!

Heckler & Koch introduced the VP9 in 2014, and it was their first modern, polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol. It was originally designed for the Bavarian State Police and was designated the P30X in Europe.

It was then imported into the United States as the VP9 and has become increasingly popular, not only in the commercial market, but with U.S. law enforcement agencies.

This demand drove the development of the new VP9A1 series. The A1 series introduced the “K” compact and “F” full-size duty pistols.

Born in Europe; Built for the U.S. Market

The VP9CC was designed and is manufactured at HK-Obendorf in Germany. In 2024, HK-O launched the SFP9 CC to the European market.

This created a great deal of excitement in the U.S. market, but given the export and import requirements, and approval from the BATF, it has taken two years for it to arrive here.

Dubbed the VP9CC in the U.S., it has the DNA of the VP9 series, both in design and appearance. No shortcuts were taken in the development process.

While a 9mm micro-compact, the CC meets the same NATO AAC/225 standards for reliability and durability as their full-size duty gun.

In addition, the CC was tested extensively to ensure reliability with U.S. commercial ammunition.

VP9CC Features and Specs

The VP9CC features the same operating controls as the full-size VP9 models. These include an ambidextrous slide catch/release, HK’s patented charging ports on the rear of the slide, and vaunted paddle magazine release.

The 3.1-inch barrel is made from HK’s legendary cold-hammer forged cannon steal for enhanced accuracy and extreme durability.

The VP9CC comes with a flush 10-round and a 12-round extended magazine. The fire control system is a chassis system, and the CC has the same trigger safety, firing pin/drop safety, and the other safety features found on the larger VP9s.

An additional feature is you must remove the magazine from the pistol to rotate the take-down lever. Interchangeable backstraps allow the user to modify the pistol to their hand size.

HK has also treated significant parts of the CC with their Hostile Environment Coating.

Following the market trend, the VP9CC is optic-ready with a proprietary “deep slide” cut that enables the optic to sit significantly lower than other designs.

The pistol comes with an RMSc mounting plate. Other mounting plates are available from HK-USA’s webstore.

VP9CC Early Test Results

Our test pistol came with a Vortex Defender CCW that was mounted at the factory. The Defender CCW is a closed emitter that has 12 brightness settings with two being night-vision compatible.

We were able to obtain our test pistol several weeks before the launch, and I shot approximately 600 rounds, consisting of 17 different loads, through the VP9CC during our range tests.

The Lehigh 90-grain Self Defense XD was the hottest round, averaging 1,262 fps.

As expected, the pistol was 100% reliable, and we had no malfunctions or issues. The shooting experience was positive. Bench rest groups, from 15-yard groups, averaged between 1.5 inches and 2 inches.

The new VP9CC answers the demand for a micro-compact that is pure Heckler & Koch. Look for a full review in the July/August 2026 issue of Hook & Barrel Magazine.
